I/O expansion Shield for RaspberryPi has a design failure

Messaggio da Smile »

The extension board (s1093) from futurashop.it has got a design failure. The error line of the MCP23017 chip is connected to ground by the design of the PCB. Therefor the expansion board will not be recognized by the Raspberry Pi. It can be fixed by cutting the line to pin 18 (error line) under R24. It is also not possible to power the Raspberry Pi by the expansion board. It is possible to power the extension board by the Raspberry Pi. The 2 pin jumper of JP5V could be replaced by a 3 pin jumper to make it possible to power the Raspberry Pi from the expension board. The listings of the Python scripts on the open-electronics.org page (http://www.open-electronics.org/a-great ... ed-on-i2c/) will give indent errors. After a colon the following commands need to be indented. The circuit diagram provided withe the extension board and also on the open-electronics.org page is not exactly as the design of the PCB. So are, for example, the red leds and resistors near the relays mounted the other way around, but that is not a problem.
